On April 17, 2020, Stat Staff Professionals held its first-ever, tele-award to honor this year’s recipient of the DAISY Foundation’s DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses®, Carla Gardner.

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses® was established in 1999 by members of the family of Patrick Barnes. He was 33 years old and died of complications of the auto-immune disease ITP. Like many families who go through this kind of horrific loss, the Barnes family wanted to do something positive to honor the very special man Patrick was. Pat’s family created The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses. What started out as a thank you from their family to nurses has grown into a meaningful recognition program embraced by healthcare organizations around the world. We are very proud to partner with the DAISY Foundation as we have extraordinary nurses here at Stat Staff Professionals.

Adjusting for the times, Stat Staff team members came together online to honor Carla Gardner, an incredible nurse, for her contributions to the healthcare field. This is the third year in a row the Carla has been nominated for the DAISY Award, and people can’t help but praise her.

“Carla has consistently demonstrated why she deserves the DAISY award and has been nominated in the past,” said Carla’s recruiter, Kristie Hooper. “She is a team player, provides amazing care to all her patients, demonstrates a positive attitude in any situation and above all represents herself and Stat Staff Professionals in a respectful manner. We have received multiple communications from facilities that she has worked at, stating what a great nurse she is.”

One of the facilities she worked at sent this message to her:

“I want to let you know that you continue to get excellent feedback in the role of charge, and you truly have been a dedicated member of the team here at Bassett. We appreciate your dedication to patient safety, optimizing flow, and the care and empathy you provide to the patient.

Today, a mother recognized the nursing team for the care of her child, and you were a big part of that positive experience! Thank you for the care you provided to that child and family.
Thank you for supporting excellent patient care and our team! We appreciate you!”

And on another occasion, a facility said:

“Carla, thanks for all you did today to keep things moving in the ED despite anything that was thrown your way, you just kept the flow going and kept focused on taking care of the patients, visitors, and your team! You are a super Charge Nurse! We appreciate you!”

While not able to present in person, Stat Staff mailed Carla her award pin and the Healer’s Touch Sculpture, given to DAISY award recipients. The award also comes with tuition and certification benefits.

We are so proud of Carla and want to thank her for all that she does.
