Iron Nurse

Date published: July 25, 2018

“Michael Casciaro, you are an Ironman!”, announced the loudspeaker after thirteen hours, thirty-five minutes, and forty-one seconds of non-stop racing.

On Sunday, July 22nd, I had the honor of attending the Ironman Triathlon, held annually in Lake Placid, NY. I watched on as Michael Casciaro, an ER nurse at Stat Staff Professionals, took on the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bicycle ride, and the 26.22-mile marathon in that order, and without a break. To say that I am in awe is an understatement; the dedication and perseverance of each and every athlete at this event was both remarkable and inspiring.  Completing the Ironman Triathlon is a phenomenal feat, and it was humbling to watch people from a multitude of different backgrounds come together in mutual respect to support one another both during and after the race. Each athlete had their own unique story as to why they decided to take on the daunting Triathlon. In turn, they received overwhelming support and encouragement from the volunteers and on-lookers.

I feel extremely fortunate to work for a company that supports their employees in every aspect of their journey, whether its furthering education or taking on one of the most physically demanding sporting events known to man. Michael Casciaro is not only a superhero in the Emergency Room, saving lives on a daily basis, but he is also an astounding athlete. Stat Staff is extremely thankful to call Michael a part of our nursing family. With perseverance and determination, the body is able to go above and beyond to test the limits of the mind and overcome obstacles to become an Ironman.
