#NURSESFORPEACE

Date published: March 17, 2022

We are joining other healthcare organizations from around the world in pledging our support and solidarity for peace. The attacks on civilians, healthcare workers, and non-military facilities are horrific and need to stop. We have added our support and signature to the International Council of Nurses’ statement condemning the invasion of Ukraine.

The statement:

The International Council of Nurses (ICN), the European Federation of Nurses Associations (EFN) and the European Forum of National Nursing and Midwifery Associations (EFNNMA), speaking on behalf of the world’s 28 million nurses, utterly condemn the illegal invasion of Ukraine and the military attacks on its people. We call for an immediate ceasefire, an end to all hostilities and for the commencement of intensified diplomatic negotiations to secure peace.

Nurses and other healthcare workers deliver care and treatment to all patients without fear or favour: they must be allowed to do their work protected from threats and violence, and the healthcare facilities they work in must be shielded from harm. International regulations and the Geneva Convention protecting health facilities and health workers must be respected and enforced.

The people of Ukraine must be provided with the humanitarian aid they are entitled to under international treaties, and they must have ready access to the vital equipment, medicines and supplies that are required to treat all of their healthcare needs, including injuries or illnesses. Refugees from the conflict must be afforded the right of free passage and provided with healthcare and support on their journeys and when they reach a place of safety.

If you’d like to learn more, donate, or sign their letter of support, you can find it here: https://www.icn.ch/what-we-do/campaigns/nursesforpeace.

In a recent letter to the company, David Theobald, MS, RN, CSP wrote:

“As a nurse-owned organization, we proudly adopted Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring. Her teachings and findings are based on simple acts of kindness and frequent displays of appreciation as the cornerstone of one’s work. Equally, one’s self-awareness of gratitude, respect, and recognition of life and others must be genuine and practiced with all engagements and interactions. This important practice has been ingrained in my professional practice early in my career and continues to guide our organization in all relationships.”

We encourage everyone to join us in taking up Jean Watson’s teaching by embodying the caring spirit and helping where you can. If you’d like to help those in crisis in Ukraine, you can join us in supporting ICN (with the link above) or there are many other resources, including these organizations we’re also supporting.

If you have an Amazon account and looking for a quick and easy way to donate, visit their Ukraine Support Page here. On that page, they have two organizations that you can donate to. One is the American Red Cross, which is helping to provide humanitarian relief to the crisis. The other is Save the Children, which is providing immediate aid and recovery to Ukrainian children and their families. With a click of a button, you can use your Amazon account to support these causes without having to sign up for any additional account.

If you’d like to join a worldwide community activity that will allow you to meet new people while bringing aid to the crisis, you can join GISH’s virtual event on March 26-27. Created by Supernatural star, Misha Collins, GISH is the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt, a Guinness World Record-setting virtual event designed to bring out the weird, creative, and adventurous sides of people while doing good. Every hunt there is a new charity they help. Last May, GISH was able to raise $80,000 in one day to help India’s fight against COVID. This March event the charity is World Central Kitchen, which is currently helping to feed the many Ukrainians fleeing to the border. If you’d like to join this event, you can register here.

However you help, Davin Healthcare encourages you to do so.

“At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about what you’ve done with those accomplishments. It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It about what you’ve given back.”
